Think on what is just, right, righteous
"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts." - Marcus Aurelius
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, (right, righteous) whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8.
The way to find joy in our hearts is to cultivate the right thoughts. By dwelling on, thinking over, and meditating on the given list, we actively cultivate the right thoughts. It is easy to get discouraged when we allow our minds to be filled with negative thoughts, thoughts that contradict the Word of God.
Believers, it is crucial to understand that you can choose your thoughts. This commandment to think means that you are in charge of your thoughts, and this responsibility is a significant part of your spiritual journey.
Spiritual stability results from thinking the right thoughts. We are all products of our thoughts. We ask if it is just or if what we believe aligns with what the Word of God says. If you want to live right, think right.
This word, or right or righteousness, speaks of what God has said about something. Just or right, righteousness is truth based on the Word of God.
Just, right, righteousness is not the same as fair.
Righteousness is based on the Word of God and His character.
Fairness is much more subjective and based on the majority’s will or the loudest.
It’s important to distinguish between fairness and righteousness.
Fairness is based on personal rights, while righteousness is based on God’s opinion.
Righteousness, or what is just, is based on the perfection of Jesus’ character.
Therefore, what you perceive as fair is based on your perspective, while what is just or righteous is based on God’s perspective.
So, as you think as a believer, move from what you feel to what God has said. Base your thinking on solid truth and not on passing emotions.
