The Untold Story: Abortion's Impact on Future Family Trees
How One Decision Can Alter the Course of History
Recently, I spoke with a friend, and his unexpected comment impacted me greatly. The idea of the conversation is that when you decide to get an abortion, the consequences go far beyond the immediate and obvious.
A woman terminated an unwanted pregnancy. Life for the baby, the unborn child, is over, but what of the future generations that could have sprung from that life that was ended? Think of the potential, the hope, and the possibilities that were lost.
Ripple Effect
The course of history changes in ways beyond our full understanding. Think of the children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren the child could have had if their life wasn’t terminated. The ripple effect of one life is immeasurable.
What might the grandchildren have accomplished? Someone erased the entire family tree before it could begin.
You can’t possibly predict the future impact of a single life. The child born into difficult circumstances could grow up to cure a disease, raise children who would do great things, become a passionate leader or teacher, or the sky is the limit.
Unwanted Children
Have you ever thought of moms who might have had children they were less than thrilled to carry to full term and see delivered? I think of John and Charles Wesley. They were the 15th and 18th children born to their mother, Susanna.
Do you think she might have been less than excited or even exhausted when those two were born? Yet God used them extensively.
What would have happened if, from fatigue and lack of finances, she had terminated the pregnancy? Millions of lives that Methodism has touched may never have been affected.
When we choose abortion, we eliminate not just one life but all the potential good that could have come from future generations.
The Big Picture
Do we really want to consider our current challenges more important than what could come from the child’s potential future? Obviously, I believe God opens and closes the womb. I trust God has a plan that He would put into effect if we simply trusted Him to use even the tragedies we face.
No matter how hard life is for us, we can only wait to see what God will do with it, with us, and even with our children. Tomorrow may reveal a far greater purpose than we could have imagined.
It is not just one pregnancy, is it? It is an entire family line. I understand that this is a tough and deeply personal decision, and I hope this perspective gives you something to think about.
