The Role of Believers as Salt and Light
Jesus referred to believers as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. What are the implications of these words.
As believers (salt), we are not merely to exist. We are called to flavor, preserve, enhance, and purify all around us. We do that by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. If we fail to witness of our faith, we lose our effectiveness. We must be engaged with the world around us.
As believers (light), we are to illuminate the world, dispel darkness, and show the way. We are to shine brightly in a world shrouded in spiritual darkness. If we fail to shine as lights, we serve no purpose; we fail to fulfill our calling. We are to be taking others to the very source of eternal light.
It is about much more than personal growth. Our role is to serve and witness actively. We are agents of change who are taking the gospel to the world. We are to impact our surroundings with the the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
We must step out of our comfort zones, engage those around us, and boldly proclaim the message of hope that is found in Jesus Christ.
We continue growing in our relationship with Jesus and remain faithful in sharing our faith with others.

Salt does all these good things without calling attention to itself. We should humbly serve others, not seek recognition or praise.
