The Essence of Trust: Understanding God's Command
Exploring the Biblical Call to Trust in the Lord
Do you ever stop to think about what it means to trust God? God commands us to trust Him, to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. What does that mean, exactly? How can we cultivate this trust in our lives?
Trusting in the Lord means placing our complete confidence in God. We are to put aside our limited human perspective.
The Hebrew word used in Proverbs 3:5 for trust has the following meanings or explanations.
Trust means to believe, to be confident or sure, to hope or expect the promise. It is a confidence that allows one to be carefree and unsuspecting. When we trust we are secure, we fear nothing for ourselves. We place our trust in God, the object of our trust and security. It means to depend on or rely on. Being insured allows you to be at ease.
Now, take all of that and realize what we are saying. We have so much confidence or trust in our family that we lay down and sleep carefree, never expecting that anyone in our family will harm us.
Trust means there is no limit to the confidence you place in someone, so you can share your heart and be completely vulnerable because you know they will never hurt you.
The word trust in the Old Testament is faith in the New Testament. It means assurance, confidence, and belief again. The word was used to show proof, guarantee, or pledge. It means commitment, reliability, reliance, conviction, persuasion of its truth,
I am pretty sure you know all of that, but I enjoy putting it into words and taking every look at it.
Starts with faith and belief
I recognize He is God. He is all-powerful, good, and loves all of humanity. Trust or faith is believing that He is, and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
We believe, we trust, and we act on that belief. With faith in God’s guidance and support, we step into the unknown. We know, have confidence, and hope, knowing that what we can’t see is true.
Trust and faith in God bring comfort.
We believe His promises. We do not act or react to our fleeting emotions or circumstances, but trust in God’s unchanging nature and His promises.
We know all things work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. We know the Lord is our shepherd, and we will lack nothing.
We firmly believe that nothing anywhere can separate us from the love of God.
The promises of God comfort us and give stability, even though we live in uncertain times.
Trust and faith are based on knowing Him
To trust God, you need to know Him. How can you trust someone you do not know and know well? I am not talking about an intellectual understanding or even being saved, born again, or a child of God. I am talking about knowing Him, His character, His love, mercy, justice, and wisdom.
I fear we know about God more than we know Him. I think we know what people have told us without in-depth Bible study and meditation. By the way, if you want to know the Father, you must know the Son. if you have seen Jesus, then you have seen the Father. If you want to know how the Father thinks and feels about something, check out Jesus and what He did. They are two different people but share the same character. They have distinct personalities, and they are precisely the same. Jesus is God from God.
Spend time in prayer, build up your intimacy with Him, walk with Him, and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, who is God. He lives in you, is your closest friend, and is Jesus living in you. You live in the Father, and the Father lives in you.
The Nature of Trust
Trust is connection. It is a covenant relationship, bonds, and commitment. It is a mutual relationship in which God promises to be faithful, and we respond with trust and obedience because we know His character.
The believer is never alone. We do not face our struggles alone. We are God’s beloved children. He protects us, provides for us, and is our refuge, our safe place.
We are secure spiritually and emotionally. No matter what happens in this life, we are confident that our Father still loves us and that His promises are still true.
The more you learn to trust God, the more you develop confidence in yourself and God your Father. The Creator is my Father, my Dad, my Daddy.
I can face whatever challenges come my way. Taking unbelievable risks, I can step out in faith while serving Him. I can speak the truth with boldness. With perseverance, I can overcome any difficulties that come my way. I can not and will not lose hope in the face of adversity.
I will live gratefully because I know who I belong to and who I am, and I know He is mine. I know my Father loves me and will never leave me or quit loving me. He never thinks less of me.
This way of thinking will transform your life. You will have a confidence that will shock everyone, especially your enemies or those who want to hurt you. God, I will trust you today and forever.
