The Battle Against Darkness: Jesus as Our Rescuer
Analyzing the spiritual warfare aspect of the incarnation and Jesus's role in overcoming evil.
As you prepare to celebrate Christmas, do not forget that there were tremendous reasons for Jesus’s coming to earth and being born among us.
Christmas is about the incarnation of God as a man. God, the whole Godhead, lived among us to accomplish God’s purposes. Jesus did not come into the world to condemn the world but to save the world.
We were already condemned therefore, further condemnation was unnecessary. We needed a Savior, not a judge.
Remember that Jesus didn’t come on His own mission. It isn’t like God is psychotic. He is not schizophrenic. He is One. Jesus didn’t have a mission to rescue us from God. God came in Jesus to rescue us. The Angel said to name Jesus Emmanuel, or God with us.
But Jesus came for another reason. God sent him to crush the Devil and his wicked plans and schemes.
‌He that committeth sin is of the Devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil.
I John 3:8
It is sin that hurts and destroys man. Jesus came to give us victory over sin. Satan tempted Adam and Eve to sin and to rebel against God. Sin entered the world and brought death. Jesus came to destroy even death and the Devil, who had the power of death.
‌Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the Devil; Hebrews 2:14
‌‌Satan has been lying to man since the beginning. He desires to paint a picture of a stingy, selfish God, but that is the opposite of the truth.
In the beginning, God created paradise, the Garden of Eden. There was only one restriction: not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Satan tells Eve that God doesn’t want them to know right from wrong; God wants to keep the power of the right to Himself. Satan portrayed God as the bad guy. God gave them life and paradise, the Devil gave them sin and death, and yet man today still rebels against the loving God who created us and died to save us.
Go comes in Jesus at what we celebrate for Christmas to clear up who He is and what He has done. God rescues, frees, saves, restores dignity, and gives new life.
Satan destroys people, and God, through Jesus, intends to destroy the work of the Devil and do the opposite.
Jesus came into the world at the bidding of His Father. God came in Jesus to rescue us from the Devil and death.
‌Satan puts people in bondage and slavery and takes advantage of them, but Jesus comes to set people free.
So, as you celebrate Christmas, be sure to remember all that is happening. God loves you, and He came to be born among us to show His love and understanding. Jesus came to free us and return us to knowledge and fellowship with God.
This Christmas, celebrate the love of the Father, the love of the Son, and the love of the Holy Spirit.
