More than Goal Setting and Motivation
Not bossing people around but being a servant. Humility, accountability, and relying on God are the cornerstones to Christian leadership.
Godly leaders are human, with both strengths and weaknesses. The Bible portrays leaders’ humanity, mistakes, and failures without hiding them from us. Moses disobeyed God in anger. Joshua rushed ahead to make treaties without praying. David made terrible decisions, sinned, tried to cover it up, and withdrew into himself. Other leaders sought worldly gain.
God’s men were not perfect, and neither are we. However, our imperfections should not excuse us to sin or fail. Instead, it should remind us of the power of God’s forgiveness and His ability to use imperfect people to accomplish His perfect will. Even in our imperfections, we can still be influential leaders, learning from our mistakes and moving forward in God’s grace.
The primary lesson is acknowledging our limitations, seeking God, and being accountable. As godly leaders, it’s crucial to cultivate a spirit of repentance and restoration. This means recognizing our mistakes and seeking forgiveness from God and those we lead. We desire to form a culture of accountability and allow for personal growth and development.
Godly leaders rely on God continually. The righteous man falls seven times but gets back up. Christian leaders often fall into the trap of desiring power and control, hindering their ministry and leadership. A lack of humility, a focus on power and control rather than service, and a failure to prioritize the spiritual well-being of their team members are common pitfalls. Instead, godly leaders should strive for humility, understanding that their role is to serve and prioritize the well-being of their team members.
Leaders who micromanage instead of delegating can lose trust, demotivate team members, and decrease productivity. Often, leaders struggle to connect with their team members. They don’t listen, show concern, or strive to understand their perspectives or needs. This is a breakdown in servant or Biblical leadership.
Godly leadership cares for the team and ensures that everyone understands their role. Godly leadership is genuinely concerned for the well-being of all team members and their families.
