Lessons from the Common House Fly
You ever pay attention to house flies. They are not under control in agricultural areas of Arequipa. So I noticed and thought the following:
Betty and I are in Arequipa, Peru. There are flies, typical house flies, everywhere. They are annoying. My son has a "Bug A Salt" Rifle, meant as a play on the word. It is an air-pressure gun that has salt for the bullet. It is used to kill flies. It is fun to pump and shoot flies, leaving a small spray of salt wherever you shoot. I was meditating on the flies and thought of several things I could learn.
The life cycle of a fly goes through four distinct stages known as complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
The fly begins life in decaying organic matter, food waste, or feces. The egg hatches as a maggot and begins to grow rapidly. Then, it transforms into the pupal stage and emerges as a fly. The fully developed fly will live its entire life cycle in only a few weeks. I read that the male lives 15 days and the female 25 days. Oh, the wonder of being born female.
Lessons we can learn from the common house fly
Just watch flies and see if you do not notice the following:
Thrive in whatever environment or be flexible, adaptable, and resilient.
Be resourceful and find the resources you need to achieve your goals.
Be tenacious and persistent in achieving your objectives.
House flies are aware of their environment, though sometimes the flies here at David's house seem slower than others.
House flies are quick, nimble, and agile.
House flies have adapted to coexist with humans. We must learn to adapt to changing environments.
House flies find a balance between seeking food sources and avoiding danger, teaching us the importance of balance in our pursuits.
Quotes
Basically, the house fly is born in poop and overcomes. They seem never to give up. They keep trying.
