Dear friends,
Based on the most recent MRI scans, I want to update you on my health. Many of you have been faithfully praying, asking, and standing with me—and for that, I’m grateful beyond words.
As some of you know, I’ve been living with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a type of kidney cancer. This last MRI gives us some important updates. I’ll break it down for you as clearly as possible—and I’ll even give you some size comparisons, so it’s easier to picture.
1. Left Kidney Tumor Has Grown Slightly
Current size: 2.1 x 1.6 cm
(about 0.83 x 0.63 inches – close to the size of a small grape or a large jellybean)
Previous size: 1.6 x 1.3 cm
(roughly the size of a peanut)
This is a tumor inside the remaining kidney (I only have one). The growth here is modest, confirming that the tumor is still active and slowly enlarging.
2. Left Inguinal Tumor (Groin Area) Has Grown Some
Current size: 3.6 x 3.1 cm
(about 1.42 x 1.22 inches – think of a ping pong ball)
Previous size: 3.1 x 2.6 cm
(about 1.22 x 1.02 inches – roughly a large walnut)
This is likely a lymph node affected by cancer or a direct tumor deposit. It’s in the groin area and has grown slightly since the last scan.
3. Right Inguinal Tumor Has Shrunk Slightly
Current size: 2.6 x 2.1 cm
(about 1.02 x 0.83 inches – close to a large marble)
Previous size: 2.8 x 2.4 cm
(around 1.10 x 0.94 inches – think of a golf ball that’s shrunk a little)
This is the first time we’ve seen some good news in the tumor measurements—this one has decreased slightly.
Percentage Changes:
To give you a clearer sense:
Kidney tumor increased by about 42% in volume
Left inguinal tumor increased by around 33% in volume
Right inguinal tumor decreased by about 18% in volume
These numbers remind me that even when some things grow, others shrink. It’s not all going in one direction—and that’s important to remember.
The Bigger Picture
The cancer is still active and progressing in some areas, but not aggressively. And we’re seeing stability—or even improvement—in others.
What Does All This Mean?
It means I’m still in the fight, but not alone, because I have the absolute peace of knowing Christ lives in me. While the scans show physical realities, they don’t define the spiritual truth: I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.
Sometimes the numbers and sizes can feel overwhelming, but I remind myself: these tumors are not bigger than God’s grace. Even a “ping pong ball-sized” growth cannot outmatch the power of the One who holds the universe.
How You Can Pray:
For wisdom for upcoming decisions with my medical team
For peace, as I navigate treatment options
For strength and endurance, each day
For healing, because I believe God still does miracles
Thank you for praying for me and walking this journey with me. If you’ve made it this far reading this, you’ve already blessed me with your care.
With gratitude and hope,
Austin
