Giving is a grace from God.
II Corinthians 8:1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
The Bible calls this a grace: something that causes joy, pleasure, gratification, favor, and acceptance. Grace is a favor done without expecting anything in return. It is the loving kindness of God giving His unearned, unmerited favor to sinners
Grace is God giving me the power, ability, and desire to do something.
What good are words when you can act
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:15-16
How can you claim to have God’s love in you and not give? God's love is a powerful force that compels us to act with compassion and generosity.
But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. Our actions, not just our words, are what truly demonstrate our love and compassion. I John 3:17-18
We have been given so that we can give
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. I Timothy 6:17-19
Cheap talk can never replace sacrificial giving. True love is sacrificial. God’s people should be concerned about others and, especially the poor
