From Victim to Victor: Transforming Your Mindset for Success
Overcoming Negativity and Embracing Personal Growth
It’s not MY FAULT
Those with a victim mentality typically express a need to blame others or circumstances for their problems. The victim is full of excuses and refuses to take responsibility for one’s actions or the situation in which one finds oneself. They cannot see how it could be their fault.
Since they do not take responsibility, there is no way forward, no way to change. It is happening to them, and they are helpless to move.
If the victim simply changes their thought patterns, they can overcome whatever is happening. For instance, instead of dwelling on past mistakes, they can focus on learning from them and making better choices in the future. People in horrible circumstances and who have been through the worst tragedies and traumas have succeeded, but only when they take responsibility for their lives. They might not be able to do anything to change the past, but they can get up, wipe themselves off, and step forward into life.
Live in the land of negative thoughts.
The victim lives in the land of negativity. This means they constantly speak to themselves with negative thoughts, such as ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I’ll never succeed.‘ They find ways to self-sabotage their lives, often because of a deep-seated belief that they don’t deserve good things. Their self-pity and pity parties never end. They find themselves in a deep, bottomless pit and can not escape. They are confident they do not deserve good things from God or life.
They feel powerless. There is no way to change their lives. They have slowly learned to live powerless lives. They are afraid of taking risks.
You can change. You need to start by getting control of your thoughts. Realize that God has a great plan for you. Learn what the Scriptures say about God’s love for you. Bring all of your thoughts into captivity to Christ Jesus. This means aligning your thoughts with the teachings of Christ, which emphasize love, forgiveness, and personal responsibility. Think biblically true thoughts.
You have the potential to lead a victorious life. Jesus came to give you life and to give it to you more abundantly. Start each day by immersing yourself in the Bible. Jot down a Truth from God’s Word each day, then declare how you will Trust God to make that happen, and finally, express Thanks for how God will work. This practice will empower you and motivate you to live a victorious life.
Uncontrolled Emotions
The victim can’t seem to get control of their emotions. Anger, frustration, and resentment scream out against their perceived abusers, and they are everywhere. In “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens, one man hurts Miss Havisham, and she hates all men.
Someone abandons and betrays the victim, and they expect everyone to be the same and trust no one again. Their feelings are nothing but hopelessness and despair. They are alone in fighting a world of injustice. They are ready to convince everyone of their right to be hurt.
They just give up in guilt and shame and live in the land of helplessness. All they hope for is to be acknowledged for their true selves. They are victims and need you to acknowledge and affirm their victimhood.
They defend themselves even when people who love them try to help. They feel entitled and live very selfish lives, even while trying to deny this truth. This entitlement may be their greatest blind spot.
To them, everyone is either good or bad; there is no middle ground, and it all depends on their perception of the world around them.
They have lost the ability to have positive thoughts. Their thoughts are all pessimism and negativity. Others are more fortunate and blessed and have it better than them. They can’t find a solution to their problem. There is no way out.
It’s not the end. If the victim can just take control of their thoughts, they can discover hope and a new life, filled with inspiration and hope for the future.
If they would just take the first steps towards life and light, they could enjoy life again. If they would just allow others to help them, they could live.
God has something better for you.
There is Hope
Jesus Christ is the source of hope. Despair and all this negativity come from the sin-crushed world. You have allowed the devil and society to pressure you into a mold of misery when God means for you to live a life of great joy and abundance.
Learn who God is and how He loves you.
Cast all your cares on the Lord, and He will meet your needs.
Wait on the Lord to strengthen you.
Believe God.
Transform your thinking a little more every day.
The Word of God will become your greatest friend if you will just step toward the light.
