Joseph, the favored son of Jacob, had already endured much hardship. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, he found himself in Egypt, purchased by Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard. Through his diligence and wisdom, Joseph quickly rose from slave to overseer of Potiphar’s entire household. The Lord blessed everything under Joseph’s care, and Potiphar came to trust him completely.
Joseph had grown into a handsome young man, and Potiphar’s wife took notice. Day after day, she attempted to seduce him, but Joseph steadfastly refused her advances. “How could I do such a wicked thing?” he would say. “It would be a sin against God and a betrayal of your husband, who has trusted me with everything he owns.”
One day, when the house was empty of servants, Potiphar’s wife caught Joseph by his cloak. “Come to bed with me!” she demanded. Joseph fled, leaving his cloak in her grasp. Humiliated and angry at his rejection, she clutched the garment–evidence she would use to craft her vengeful lie.
She called to her household servants, crying out that Joseph had tried to assault her. When Potiphar returned home, she presented Joseph’s cloak, weaving a tale of attempted rape. “That Hebrew slave you brought us tried to attack me,” she claimed, “but when I screamed, he ran away, leaving his cloak behind.”
Enraged by this accusation against his most trusted servant, Potiphar had Joseph thrown into the king’s prison.

Don’t believe the accusations until the facts come out and both sides speak.
Realize the lasting impact of false accusations.
Never give up or quit on God, no matter the attacks.
Forgive others because you have been forgiven.
Realize that God may have a bigger plan than you can see or understand

Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph to cover her own guilt. She wanted to protect her reputation by destroying Joseph.
She wanted vengeance because Joseph rejected her sexual advances, which angered and embarrassed her.
She used her false accusations to manipulate her husband and others.
To cover her own misconduct, she diverted attention to Joseph.
Jealousy and being rejected angered her, and the desire to hurt Joseph consumed her.
