Biblical Wisdom on Wealth: Finding Balance in Finances
Discovering God's Principles for Managing Money and Generosity
Consider the following Biblical principles about money or wealth.
Too much or too little
The wise man gives a proverb that should ring true: Ask God for enough to satisfy you, but still stay humble and hungry for God. Ask not to be so poor that you would do something wrong or inappropriate to take care of your family.
Lest I be full, and deny thee, And say, Who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And take the name of my God in vain. Proverbs 30.9
Trusting Money is Sure Way to Fall
Money is a tool and should never be trusted. Trust God, who gives you the power and ability to earn money. See money as a tool, which is all that it is. If you trust money, you are sure to fail, leading to potential consequences that you may want to avoid.
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: But the righteous shall flourish as a branch. Proverbs 11:28
God blesses the Generous.
God wants us to be honored with what we have. He desires us to love Him so much that we give Him our best, the very first dollar, the first success, the best of all, all the time. If we honor Him, He promises to continue to bless us.
Honour the Lord with thy substance, And with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10
Givers gain, and Holders lose.
The wise man noticed that those who gave what they added and were generous tended to gain while those who waited to give ended up losing. Being a liberal, generous giver brought success, and those who helped others were helped. This truth can inspire and motivate you to be a generous giver in your life.
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; And there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs 11:24-25
Being Generous to the Lord
Have you ever considered that when you give to those who can’t help you, the poor, you are giving to the Lord? This is not about giving to get but giving to be a blessing, a help, not thinking of what you get in return. It's a way to spiritually connect with the Lord.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; And that which he hath given will he pay him again. Proverbs 19:17
God has promised to meet your needs if you give without thought of return.
He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. Proverbs 28:27
