7 Tips for Finding Your Dream Job in a Competitive Market
How would a believer find the right job? What advantages does a trusting believer have over the regular person.
God’s Word has the answer to every part of our lives. How about these truths found in Scripture that will propel you forward in your pursuit of a job—your dream job, the job God would have you to have?
Prioritize your relationship with God.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33.
God knows what you need. He wants to meet your every need. He wants you to seek Him first and let Him give you all you need. So, the opposite of the world, you will look for God. You desire to love Him, please Him, prioritize Him, and He will meet your needs.
In your desperation to find the ideal job, know that looking for the job comes after developing your relationship with God.
Never panic; God is the God of the moment.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:34.
Know that God teaches you throughout Scripture not to worry about the past or the future. He has forgiven and cleansed your past. He will be there tomorrow when you need Him, but He wants a personal, intimate relationship today.
Remember, give us our daily bread; the manna fell daily. He loads us daily with benefits, and you are to take up your cross daily.
God is the God of the now, at this moment. So, instead of panicking, you will trust. You know He can get you through today, and then He will take care of you tomorrow. So, no panic. Instead, you will seek, trust, and wait for Him to move in your life.
Be the hardest, most honest, and most diligent worker possible every day at every job.
You know you are working for Jesus no matter where you are working or who your boss is. You are not working for another person. Instead of pleasing another person, you are pleasing the Lord Jesus.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23–24.
You do your job with all your heart because you are not working for men, but the Lord. You know the Lord will reward your work.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10.
As a believer, you do all your work to the best level possible. You never do half-hearted work, and you never give less than your best.
And whatsoever ye do in Word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:17
Basically, you are telling the world that you are doing your job like Jesus would. You want the name of Jesus attached to your work. That will definitely raise the standard.
After all, you do what you do for the glory of God, not you. So wherever you are and whatever you are doing, it is done with glorifying God in mind.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31.
Find your pleasure in the Lord God of Heaven.
Delight thyself also in the Lord, And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, And thy judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: Fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off: But those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. Psalm 37:4–9.
You delight or find your pleasure in God, and He gives you the best. Your heart desires what He desires, and you enjoy what He enjoys. So, life has meaning. Trust God to care for you, open doors for you, and promote you. God can bless you like He did Joseph, so whatever you do prospers. God will make it clear in the light of day that He has approved of you and your work. So relax and trust God. There is no need to fight to protect yourself, because He will protect you. Don’t get mad, be competitive, or fight for a position. God will right the wrongs. So wait on Him.
Never be lazy or idle.
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Romans 12:11.
Never shrink away or hold back from doing the job before you. Do not hesitate; do not be reluctant. Do not be unproductive or inactive. Instead of lacking energy, effort, motivation, or initiative, do not be lazy or undisciplined. Be willing to sweat and pay the price.
The verse clearly states that we are serving the Lord, so we can not hold back. We must be involved 100%, without hesitation. If this is our lifestyle, then work will open to us.
Live worthy of your calling.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1–3.
You belong to Jesus every day of your life. He saved you and lives in you. Your life is not yours but His. So live like who you are. Don’t carry the name of Jesus lightly, even to work. This is not so much a call to talk about Jesus as a call to be the hardest worker, diligent, and honest because it is who you are.
Trust the Lord’s direction.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: Fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:5–7.
If you put these steps into action in your life, you see God will direct your steps and take care of getting you the exact job you need. You are not the wise one. You are not as in control as you wish you were. So, live to lean on the truths of God’s Word rather than your wisdom. Trust God and watch what He is going to do.
